چکیده

The mixed valence vanadium oxide V6O13 is an interesting material which exhibits an insulator-to-metal or semiconductor-to-semiconductor transition at low temperatures. It is also a much studied cathode material for lithium-based thin film batteries. However, there is little information available about its mechanical properties. Young’s modulus of pulsed-laser deposited V6O13 thin films has been determined by measuring the fundamental resonant frequency of silicon dioxide microcantilevers coated with V6O13. Laser deflection techniques were used to measure the cantilevers’ resonant frequencies. The films were further characterized by x-ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy, and resistivity measurements. The value of Young’s modulus associated with the direction along the material’s 001 planes was found to be approximately 100 GPa. The values obtained for films ranging from 90 to 200 nm were equal within experimental error. © 2009 American Institute of Physics. DOI: 10.1063/1.3137191

COMPOSITION DEPENDENCE OF MECHANICAL AND PIEZOELECTRIC PROPERTIES OF PULSED LASER DEPOSITED Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 THIN FILMS

In this contribution we present the compositional dependence of the longitudinal piezoelectric coefficient (d33,f), residual stress and Young’s modulus of Pb(Zrx,Ti1−x)O3 (PZT) thin films. Pulsed laser deposition (PLD) was used to deposit epitaxial PZT thin films with a < 110 > preferred orientation on silicon cantilevers. By using PLD, excellent piezoelectric properties of the PZT were observe...

Back to the Programme DETERMINATION OF YOUNG’S MODULUS OF PZT – INFLUENCE OF CANTILEVER ORIENTATION

Calculation of the resonance frequency of cantilevers fabricated from an elastically anisotropic material requires the use of an effective Young’s modulus. In this paper a technique to determine the appropriate effective Young’s modulus for arbitrary cantilever geometries is introduced. This technique is validated using a combined analytical and finite element simulations (FEM) approach. In add...

Surface Morphological and Nanomechanical Properties of PLD-Derived ZnO Thin Films

This study reports the surface roughness and nanomechanical characteristics of ZnO thin films deposited on the various substrates, obtained by means of atomic force microscopy (AFM), nanoindentation and nanoscratch techniques. ZnO thin films are deposited on (aand c-axis) sapphires and (0001) 6H-SiC substrates by using the pulsed-laser depositions (PLD) system. Continuous stiffness measurements...

Mechanical Properties and Microstructural Evolution of Ta/TaNx Double Layer Thin Films Deposited by Magnetron Sputtering

Crystalline tantalum thin films of about 500nm thickness were deposited on AISI 316L stainless steel substrate using magnetron sputtering. To investigate the nano-mechanical properties of tantalum films, deposition was performed at two temperatures (25°C and 200°C) on TaNx intermediate layer with different N2/Ar flow rate ratio from 0 to 30%. Nano-indentation was performed to obtain the mechani...
